Lockdown easing in England delayed

Boris Johnson

Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed that the final stage of easing lockdown restrictions in England has been delayed until July 19th.

The delay was widely expected following the recent increase in cases, driven by the more transmissible so-called Delta variant, which was first identified in India.

Mr Johnson said there would be a review after two weeks but was “confident” that the delay would not be extended past the initial four weeks.

Despite the continuation of lockdown restrictions, from June 21st the maximum number of people allowed at weddings and wakes will no longer be limited to 30 – subject to social distancing and a risk assessment being completed. This means that no indoor dancing is permitted yet.

Please do continue to follow Government guidance for everyone’s safety and you can find updated Covid-19 related guidance on the gov.uk website.
